Audio-Technica ATH-M30x Review

Audio Technica Ath-m30x headphones are budget headphones that offer premium features and high-end specs. This pair provides the finest sound quality and good durability than other headphones.

Additionally, the audio output of these headphones is relatively flat and neutral, which adds more clarity to the frequencies and hence makes audio quality superior. Some noteworthy features that we liked about Technica ATH-M30x are –

Performance

The ATH-M series is the world’s first full-range headphones to incorporate a single, high-performance, large-diaphragm driver. With 40mm dynamic drivers, the ATH-M30x delivers exceptional audio performance. These are designed specifically for field recording, production, and tracking.

Build Quality

Audio-Technica used high-quality materials and advanced technologies for its audio gears. Its robust build quality includes lightweight aluminum housing with a comfortable closed-back design.

Professional Use

The M30x has a 15Hz to 22kHz frequency response, neodymium magnets, and copper-clad voice coils. As a result, the frequency response is extended, providing detail and clarity of sound. Also, This pair is optimized for superior tracking in professional use too.

Design

The M30x features a circumaural design. This design reliefs around the ears, improving isolation and eliminating background noise. A collapsible headband allows you to carry it comfortably on your neck and a collapsible design for easy storage.

Pros

  • The sound quality is excellent.
  • Very affordable yet premium quality.
  • Great comfortability due to cushioning strap.
  • It comes with a soft pouch for storage purposes.
  • Comfortable enough for wearing for hours together even after long periods.

Cons

  • Not suitable for people who prefer active noise-canceling headphones.

As they deliver on both aspects, I would highly recommend these headphones to anyone looking for headphones with good sound quality and are also worth the price. It’s a perfect headphone for commuters and those who need it for their professional use.

Studio Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M30x Good Noise Canceling?

The ATH-M30x are closed-back headphones, and they don’t have active noise canceling feature. But these pair have a passive noise canceling feature that works really well. The padded ear cups provide the user with a tight fit, and their sound is excellent! It reduces the ambient noise by a large margin.

Moreover, it offers excellent sonic fidelity in lower frequencies and wide bandwidth. In practical life, isolation is quite good. With their circumaural design, the noise isolation is impressive. However, it doesn’t isolate all outside noise completely. It only reduces the external noise that’s going on around you. It doesn’t mitigate external sounds like a plane flying overhead or other noises that go on around you while you’re walking or something like that.

Furthermore, it keeps some of the low-level sounds out, so it’s better than opening back, which makes your ears vulnerable to those low-level sounds and can greatly annoy your ears. In truth, Dj headphones need sound isolation, and these pair of headphones sound great and isolate noise on the ear. However, you may notice the background noise at low volumes but not much, and it is not annoying at all.

Gaming Headphones: Is the Audio Technica ATH-M30x Good for Gaming?

Audio Technica ATH-M30x is suitable for gaming. There are several features that make these Headphones a perfect fit for gamers.

The first Reason is –

It’s easy to fold and store away. Also, the headphones offer very high audio performance. You can enjoy immersive full sound even if you’re playing the game at a loud volume.

The second Reason is –

These headphones come with a single-side straight cable. And the comfort level on your head and ears are perfect for long-term gaming.

Also, the 40mm significant drivers ensure a good aural quality even when playing video games at a loud volume. And you get some pretty decent bass without being too bass-heavy.

It has a smooth sound and a perfect sound stage to go along with it. There are also some lovely highs, which are not overly tinny or rumble-y when listening to specific genres of music.

Overall, the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x is one of the best headphones for gaming. Its audio is top-notch, lightweight, and durable. And music plays at just the proper levels to be seriously immersive. So, it’s a perfect choice for your gaming experience.

Sound Quality: Does Audio Technica ATH-M30x Have Good Sound Quality?

Excellent performance comes from superior build and materials used to make it. The sound output of Audio Technica ATH-M30x headphones is clear without any distortion.

M30x has a well-balanced sound, and it produces warm, clear, and noise-free sound. Also, it has excellent clarity of vocals and highs, and the bass is deep but not overpowering. These pair are well-designed ones with a compact foldable design worth the price. They are also built from rugged materials to withstand the rigors of studio use.

The sound does not have excessive or heavy bass, making it very suitable for a wide range of music types and genres. The bass is well-defined, and the mids have a wide range without being sibilant. There is a slight loss of details in the high-frequency range, but the metallic surface material used on earcups makes sure they won’t break easily.

Although M30x is designed for studio use, as a general music listener, they are excellent at-home too. I found the audio performance is balanced enough for casual listening at home. The volume is usually lower than home studios or recording for which these headphones are for.

Build Quality: Is the Audio Technica ATH-M30x Reliable and Comfortable?

The comfort level of ATH-M30X is outstanding. These pairs have Ultra-lightweight construction, making them highly comfortable to wear around the neck. The headband is made of premium memory foam, and the ear cups are lined with soft hypoallergenic plush fabric that feels soft on your skin. Also, these headphones are perfect for long listening sessions without getting sweaty ears.

Additionally, the headband is lightly padded, while the ear cup padding is smooth and soft with a collapsible design, so you can wear these around all day without using any gel pads or cushions on top of these headphones. Although this pair doesn’t have a detachable cable, it comes with a single-sided straight cable. So, M30X is really convenient and easy to use in the studio.

Overall, these are pretty reliable headphones because of their price, performance, and comfortable fit for long sessions.

Is Audio Technica ATH-M30x Recommended for Dj Headphones?

Yes, M30x is recommended as professional DJ headphones. They have a frequency response of 15Hz-22kHz that works fine while practicing in the studio. It is soft yet powerful headphones with great sound. Also, they come with a detachable cable and a 3.5mm plug.

I personally use them when practicing in the studio or performing at my gigs. They are comfortable on the ear and don’t itch. These closed-back headphones will provide you sound noise isolation around when you are using these headphones for the DJ work but not too much like ANC.

Buy this pair only if you are looking for Dj headphones with an extraordinary performance at an affordable price! As they offer great value as budget headphones.

Does Audio Technica M30x Have a Mic?

No, Audio Technica ATH-M30x does not have a mic or volume control. There is not even a passive one available. Still, we think M30x is a great choice with everything you need to use it. That is my experience with this pair of headphones.

Having a microphone is pretty helpful to have if you are using these headphones for a recording or gaming session in noisy places. If you don’t have a mic, you can always connect any 3.5mm extension cable with your smartphone or tablet via USB or AUX.

The best overall value for money for most people will be mid-range in-ear budget pair headphones as these can perform just as well as more expensive over-the-ear models but at a lower price tag.

Is Audio Technica M30x Good for Mixing?

Audio Technica M30x headphones excel in music production. These headphones will make a perfect companion for your studio recording and future production. The reasons are –

  • The mids and highs are detailed and precise but are not too overwhelming to cause any fatigue.
  • They also have a clean but not dull tone.
  • Also, the bass is low and tight but not muddy at all.

As a result, these headphones are fabulous for production whatever genre of audio you play and can use for DJ’ing or live shows. Audio Technica ATH-M30X provides good studio-grade details in this price range, and that’s why you can consider them for mixing.

Audio-Technica ATH-M30X: Is Ath-M30x Good?

Audio Technica ATH-M30X Review

Audio-Technica ATH-M30x series is one of the best headphones on sale at the moment. They have very low distortion, the frequency is well balanced, and they are very comfortable. Studio headphones have been put down in the past, but these budget pair is an exception to that rule.

Coming from an ordinary pair of headphones of my previous one, I was happy with the excellent performance in loud environments and the comfortable fit I got from these headphones. After trying for an extended period, I can honestly say I can’t find anything wrong with them except for maybe the longevity part.

Audio-Technica ATH-M20x vs Audio-Technica ATH-M30x, Which is Better?

By now, you must have noticed a few similarities between ATH-M30 x and ATH-M20x, but precisely the same as above, but there is one big difference between both of the headphones that explain which one is better and more comfortable to wear.

ATH-M30x is the new headphones, and these pair were released in January 2017, while its predecessor ATH-M20x has been on the market since January 2014. ATH-M30x offers more power output, and the difference in audio performance is quite evident.

Although they both feature 40mm drivers and impedance, still the M30x packs more power than its predecessors. These headphones both come with the same cable, but m30x is more comfortable to wear on long-term usage.

Another difference between them is the price, which is $20. So our suggestion is to go for the bigger brother instead of M20x because comfort is another necessary value of professional studio headphones.
