Kurt Dahle – Master of Technical Drummer

Kurt Dahle is a multi-talented musician who has made a name for himself as a skilled drummer. Dahle’s style is characterized by a heavy swing on the kick pedal and an ear for memorable fills. In addition to drums, Dahle is also proficient on keyboard, organ, guitar, saxophone, and bass.

He has played with several notable bands over the course of his career, including The New Pornographers and Age of Electric. Dahle’s versatility and technical mastery have made him one of the most amazing drummers and musicians in the industry, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Early life

Kurt Dahle was born in  Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He started playing drums at age 15. He and his younger brother Ryan, were a musical force early on and played in the bands The Age of Electric and Limblifter together.

Dahle began his musical career in the early 1990s, playing in various local bands in Vancouver. In 1995, he joined the alternative rock band Age of Electric, with whom he recorded two albums. The band achieved moderate success in Canada but disbanded in 1998.

Dahle then joined the indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers, with whom he has recorded six albums. The band has been extremely successful, winning multiple Juno Awards and garnering critical acclaim. He is widely considered to be one of the best drummers and has been praised for his versatility and technical skill.

The Age of Electric

The Age of Electric was a Canadian rock band formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1986 by Todd Kerns and Dahle circa 1986. The band’s musical style is a fusion of alternative rock, punk rock, and power pop. The Age of Electric released their self-titled debut album in 1995. The album was a critical and commercial success, spawning the hit singles “Remote Control” and “Tighten Up”. The band toured extensively in support of the album.

The New Pornographers

The New Pornographers is a Canadian indie rock band formed in 1997 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The band’s musical style is a mix of pop, rock, and power pop. The band has released seven albums, the most recent being In the Morse Code of Brake Lights (2019).

Dahle has been a member of the band since 2000. He contributes drums, vocals, and guitar to the band’s recordings. The band won the Juno award for Best Alternative Album in 2001 for Mass Romantic and was nominated for Alternative Album Of The Year in 2006 for Twin Cinema. In September 2014, Dahle left the New Pornographers.

In addition to his work with bands, Dahle has also played with several other bands, including Limblifter, Frog Eyes, and Destroyer.

In addition to his work as a musician, Dahle is also an accomplished producer and engineer. He has produced albums for several artists, including Frog Eyes and Destroyer, Neko Case.

Furthermore, Dahle has toured with New Pornographers bandmate Neko Case and played on her Grammy award-nominated solo album, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You.
