Neil Sanderson is the drummer, backing vocalist, and co-founder of multi-platinum-selling Canadian band Three Days Grace. Sanderson was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, on December 17, 1978. He began playing drums at an early age and cites Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham and Rush’s Neil Peart as two of his earliest influences.
He started playing drums when he was 12 years old. He entered Norwood District High School in 1992. Before that, he attended Adam Scott C.V.I High School in Peterborough, where he met Adam Gontier when both of them were in grade 9. With bassist Brad Walst, they practiced writing and playing instruments. They created the band “Groundswell” with Phil Crowe and Joe Grant.
Neil Sanderson is an original band member of Three Days Grace. The band formed when they were in 9th grade in high school. During high school, the band used to jam in his bedroom on lunch breaks from school. Back then, they would have mini-concerts in his room and then go back for the 3rd period.

Sanderson joined Three Days Grace in 1997, and the band released their self-titled debut album in 2003. The album was a commercial success, selling more than six million copies worldwide. Three Days Grace’s follow-up second album, One-X (2006) and Life Starts Now (2009), were also both huge successes, each selling more than one million copies in the United States alone.
In 2013, Sanderson and his bandmates released their fourth album, Transit of Venus, which debuted at number five on the Billboard album chart. The album’s lead single, “Painkiller”, was a huge success, reaching the top ten of the rock radio charts in the United States.
Sanderson is a highly talented drummer and has won numerous awards for his work with Three Days Grace, In 2006 Three Days Grace won an American Billboard “Song of the Year” award.
Another achievement unlocked included the Juno Award for Best Rock Album (Three Days Grace) in 2004 and the MuchMusic Video Award for Best Rock Video (“Painkiller”) in 2014. Sanderson continues to tour and record with Three Days Grace, and the band is currently working on their fifth studio album, which is scheduled for release in 2016.

Apart from being with three days grace, Sanderson also has several projects including with Canadian songwriter Casey Marshall, Neil Sanderson was part owner of an artist development company and songwriting collective, Püblicwürks, based in Toronto and Nashville. He is also working with Lukas Rossi on a project called King City and is the co-founder of the record label Judge and Jury along with producer Howard Benson.
Sanderson is one of the best drummers and has been an influential part of Three Days Grace since the beginning. He has won numerous awards and continues to tour and record with the band. He is also working on several other projects, including Püblicwürks, King City, and Judge and Jury.
Since he was young, he had an avid interest in music and worked with different instruments while he was in elementary school. He became enamored of drums during this time.
