For many drummers, it takes more than several albums to establish their reputation. But for Steven Adler, it took only one. It is the same album that gets him on the list of top hard rock metal drummers lists. That era-defining work is the “Appetite for Destruction.” While drumming for Guns ‘n’ Roses, Adler gave a performance that left everyone amused. Not very many drummers can live up to such a reputation, one that re-designed the world of drumming.
About Steven Adler
Steven Adler was born on January 22, 1965. The American musician is best known as the former writer of Guns ‘n’ Roses. He was with the group throughout the 80s, achieving worldwide success. But due to his heroin addiction, the drummer was fired from Guns ‘n’ Roses in 1990.
He reformed from the addiction and became a better person before joining BulletBoys. Adler was the drummer for Adler’s Appetite, a band he assisted to form. But he declared no interest in the band in 2017 due to what he called poorly attended concerts.
Adler joined Guns ‘n’ Roses at the right time when he needed a boost in his career. He came to replace the original drummer how has just quit. He and Slash joined their former bandmate from Road Crew to complete the team. They played in nightclubs and many other different places. Later, they opened opportunities for even larger acts before his drug addiction issue set in.
While speaking to a local magazine, one of his fans was heard saying how the drummer has changed his life. “Adler is one of the best hard rock and metal drummers I have ever see.” He said. “His speed, timing, and precision are truly unmatched.” That is one of the reasons Adler has remained among the top drummers. Many who know him personally say he is such a talented performer. Also, he has such a personality that keeps people close.
In a band, the drummer is often unnoticed. Vocalists and guitarists are always in the spotlight while the drummer works from the background. Adler tried changing all that by assuring a unique approach to every piece he played. Each time he sits behind the kit, you can expect to hear something new and interesting.
After his exit from Guns ‘n’ Roses, Adler was set to join AC/DC and move to Australia. However, that was not to happen after Axle Rose fired him onstage due to his drum addition, causing the AC/DC manager to withdraw their offer. But he did not give up yet, understanding how crucial his career was. He joined the newly reformed Guns ‘n’ Roses and continued doing what he loved the most.
Despite all the ups and downs in his life, Adler remained strong in his showmanship. The years that followed his departure from Guns ‘n’ Roses were a bit of touch, but he continued developing new styles that amused many. His influence in the industry will be felt forever. His speed and precision, coupled with the skill’s mastery, make him a drummer worth commending.
